Early (1st issue) vs. Later Colt Officers' Model Revolver

The two Colt Officer Models shown below belong to a high-end collector who posted these two photos on the Colt Forum.  These revolvers are c. 1904-8.

1st Model Officer Models showing the two lower frame versions. The top gun is the early version, a carry over from the Army/Navy revolvers, and the bottom gun is the later version:  Note the lower frame behind the trigger guard. The earlier one at the top is not curved behind the trigger guard, whereas the lower one (later) is curved.

Below are two 1st issue examples: Early and Late

Early frame (straighter one piece frame) to the right of the trigger guard

Note the cylinder release and trigger shapes

Colt 1st Issue 1904 revolver side place shape  Colt 1908 model second issue side plate
