This brochure measures 4 x 8.5 in., it is a tri-fold which shows 6 panels and is printed on both sides of each page of unpolished paper. The men holding the rifle are dressed in typical military uniforms for the time. At this point, the Colt business name on the brochure is:
Colt's business name ( ...Inc. ) was first used starting in 1957 to 1959.
ArmaLite sold manufacturing and licensing rights to Colt in 1959, which used the design as the basis for their M-16. Colt then became the supplier for multiple military contracts, producing 5 million M-16s by the mid-1980s. The company began marketing their AR-15 to the U.S. public in 1964.
This is a rare document relative the AR-15 development. At this point, the Colt Manufacturing Co. was promoting the AR-15, caliber .223 as a 'Military Rifle' the same way Armalite had unsuccessfully promoted it before selling their patent rights to Colt. Not until the late 1960s and 70s would Colt promote the AR-15 for the civilian market. Colt AR-15, caliber .223, Military Rifle
